Bollywood’s popular courtroom comedy franchise Jolly LLB has once again found itself in the middle of legal trouble. The third installment, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, has sparked controversy after fresh complaints accused the film of mocking the judiciary and disrespecting the legal profession.

Court issues notices

According to story published in News18, a Pune court has sent notices to Akshay and Arshad over their upcoming film Jolly LLB 3. The action comes after lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar filed a complaint, claiming that the movie makes fun of the legal system and court proceedings.

Objection over slang reference

In his petition, Bidkar argued that Jolly LLB 3 shows the legal profession in a negative light and disrespects the judiciary. He also raised objections to a scene where judges are referred to as “mamu,” a colloquial slang term.The court has issued notices to Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, asking them to appear on September 28. Further details on the case are still awaited.

Previous complaint in Ajmer

This isn’t the first time Jolly LLB 3 has faced legal trouble. Back in May 2024, the Ajmer District Bar Association President, Chandrabhan, had also filed a complaint against the makers, alleging that the franchise disrespects the Indian judiciary.In his complaint, Chandrabhan alleged that the film portrays lawyers and judges in an “inappropriate” manner, calling it both “humorous and indecent.”
He had also requested the court to halt the shooting of Jolly LLB 3.

Concerns raised during filming

Accoding to a report in NBT, Chandrabhan argued that, based on the first two films of the Jolly LLB franchise, the makers, directors, and actors appeared to show little respect for the dignity and prestige of the judiciary. He further pointed out that the shooting of Jolly LLB 3 was taking place in Ajmer and nearby areas, including the DRM office, and claimed that even during filming, the actors did not seem serious about upholding the image and honor of the judiciary and judges.The first Jolly LLB film was released in 2013 with Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla in lead roles. Its sequel arrived in 2017, featuring Akshay Kumar in place of Warsi, alongside Huma Qureshi.Jolly LLB 3, produced by Star Studio18 and directed by Subhash Kapoor, boasts a strong ensemble cast with Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Gajraj Rao.
