X Corp. Cracks Down: Half a Million Indian Accounts Suspended for Policy Breaches

Elon Musk's X Corp. (formerly Twitter) has taken action against over 500,000 accounts in India for violations of platform policies. These suspensions occurred between January 26 and February 25, as reported by Reuters.

Account Suspensions Detailed

The report indicates that X Corp. banned 506,173 accounts for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. Additionally, 1,982 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism.

In total, X Corp. banned 508,155 accounts in India during the specified period. The platform also received approximately 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms. Furthermore, around 41 requests were made regarding account suspensions.

The company stated that "We overturned 1 of these account suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the situation. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended." The company also received 71 requests related to general questions about accounts during this reporting period.

Prior Bans

This action is consistent with past practices. From December 26 to January 25, X Corp. banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India and 1,945 accounts for promoting terrorism.
