Former England cricketer Mark Butcher has weighed in on the ongoing discussion surrounding Jasprit Bumrah's potential participation in the second Test at Edgbaston. Butcher emphasized the importance of India prioritizing the team's objectives over individual workload management strategies.

India currently trails 0-1 in the five-match series after England's impressive 371-run chase in the fourth innings at Headingley. While Bumrah delivered a remarkable performance in the first innings with figures of 5/83, he remained wicketless in the second as England's aggressive "Bazball" approach dominated.
Butcher, speaking to Wisden, stated, "Bumrah is going to be a huge talking point as to whether or not this is one of his three Test matches. I think it has to be, it absolutely has to be." He further elaborated, "Six-day break after Headingley, 1-0 down, he plays. I know he wants to play at Lord's but the needs of the team and the series are more important than his wish to play a Test at Lord's."
Regarding the decision, Captain Gill mentioned that the ultimate call would be made after assessing the pitch conditions but ensured Bumrah is fully available for selection. "We will take a call after looking at the surface," Gill stated.
Should Bumrah be rested for the Edgbaston Test, Mohammed Siraj is anticipated to spearhead the pace attack, with Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna expected to provide support.
Butcher reiterated that India's primary focus should be on leveling the series, with considerations for rotating Bumrah coming later. "And who knows, he might get through this one okay and be fine for Lord's, and then you take your chances at the back-end," he concluded.
