Gupta comes to the ICC from JioStar, where he held the position of CEO, Sports & Live Experiences. He boasts a career spanning over two decades across media, entertainment, and sports industries. His journey began in journalism, followed by a significant tenure at Star India starting in 2010. He progressed through various leadership roles focusing on content and strategy before taking the helm as Head of Sports at Disney & Star India in 2020. In 2024, following the merger of Viacom18 and Disney Star, he was appointed CEO of JioStar Sports.

"I am delighted to announce Sanjog Gupta as the CEO of the ICC," stated ICC Chairman Jay Shah. "Sanjog's extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialization will be invaluable to the ICC."

Shah further added, "His profound understanding of the global sports and media landscape, combined with his continuous interest in the cricket fan's perspective and his enthusiasm for technology, will be critical in achieving our ambition to grow the game in the years ahead. Our aim is to transcend traditional boundaries and establish cricket as a mainstay sport in the Olympics, expanding its reach globally and strengthening its presence in core markets."

The ICC Chairman emphasized the rigorous selection process: "We assessed numerous exceptional candidates for this role, but the Nominations Committee unanimously endorsed Sanjog. The ICC Board Directors are eager to collaborate closely with him, and I extend a warm welcome to him on behalf of everyone at the ICC."

According to the ICC, the appointment followed a comprehensive global recruitment initiative launched in March 2025. The process attracted over 2,500 applications from candidates representing 25 countries. The ICC's HR & Remuneration Committee narrowed the field to 12 candidates, who were then further evaluated by a Nominations Committee comprising ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja, ECB Chair Richard Thompson, SLC President Shammi Silva, and BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia. The ICC Board unanimously approved Gupta's nomination following a final evaluation.

"It is an honor to have this opportunity, particularly at a time when cricket is poised for unprecedented growth and enjoys the passionate support of nearly 2 billion fans worldwide," said Sanjog Gupta, the incoming ICC CEO. "These are exciting times for the sport as marquee events grow in stature, commercial avenues widen, and opportunities such as the women's game scale in popularity. Cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the rapid acceleration of technology deployment and adoption could serve as force-multipliers for the Cricket movement worldwide."

Gupta concluded, "I look forward to contributing to the next phase of cricket's evolution, expanding its global footprint, enhancing the fan experience, and working closely with ICC Member Boards to build on our strong foundations."
