Sunita recalls first meeting Govinda
In a chat on the Time Out with Ankit podcast, Sunita looked back at the moment she first met Govinda. She said, “My sister married his maternal uncle, and I saw him for the first time at their wedding. He was in his final year of BCom and I was in Class 9. My brother-in-law told me that Govinda was from Virar, a simple man who loved his mother a lot."
She also revealed that it was a challenge with her brother that got her to pursue the hunk. "He also mentioned that no girl could impress him. I remember wondering what kind of boy he was that no girl could impress him with. When I told my brother-in-law I could, he said it was impossible.
So, I asked him what if I did, and he challenged me to prove it first," she stated.

Looking back on the early days, Sunita revealed that when Govinda was starting out with 'Tan-Badan', her uncle, Anand Singh had first offered her the female lead role, which she turned down. The role later went to Khushbu Sundar. She fondly recalled a special moment from the film’s Muhurat day when a small, unspoken gesture in the car marked the beginning of their love story.
What started as a subtle spark soon grew into a relationship, and after dating for three years, the two tied the knot. Today, they’ve shared nearly four decades together, with Sunita saying she has known Govinda for 40 years.

Back in the day, Sunita shared how her bond with Govinda slowly grew stronger. She recalled how he once gave her a Cadbury chocolate after she finished college, which became a sweet memory in their early relationship.
At first, she admitted she wasn’t very fond of him, as she came from Bandra, while he belonged to Virar, and their backgrounds felt worlds apart. But things changed when she met his mother, who instantly liked her. Wanting to see her youngest son married, Govinda’s mother played a big role in their quick wedding.
Sunita tied the knot at just 18 and embraced motherhood at 19. She also remembered how his mother stayed with them for 14 years, during which they shared a peaceful bond without any fights.
