Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone. He needs just 97 more runs to become the fastest Indian batsman to reach 2,000 Test runs. This places him in a position to potentially eclipse a 49-year-old record held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar when India takes on England in the second Test at Edgbaston, commencing on July 2nd.

Jaiswal's consistency has provided stability for India during a period of transition in Test cricket. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley, although ultimately resulting in a five-wicket defeat for India, showcased his immense talent. Despite setting a challenging target of 371 runs, India was undone by impressive batting performances from England's Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, handing England a 1-0 advantage in the five-match series.
Jaiswal's individual form is a major source of optimism for India as they seek to level the series at Edgbaston. He has accumulated 1,903 runs in just 20 Tests, maintaining an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by Sunil Gavaskar, who reached the milestone in his 23rd Test back in 1976. Gavaskar's career saw him become the first cricketer to surpass 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow on the list, achieving the 2,000-run mark in their 25th Tests.
With his elegant strokeplay and composed demeanor, Jaiswal has a golden opportunity to join and even surpass these iconic figures, providing India with a crucial boost in a must-win Test match.
