Speculation surrounding a potential romance between British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu and Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz has been put to rest. During a pre-Wimbledon press conference, Raducanu addressed the rumors and confirmed their upcoming mixed doubles partnership at the US Open.
Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz share a light moment during practice.
The pair has been observed training together, most recently in preparation for Wimbledon 2025, which commences on June 30th. Raducanu was also seen supporting Alcaraz during his semi-final match at the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club, further fueling the rumors.
When directly questioned about a possible romantic relationship, Raducanu responded, "We're just good friends." Adding a touch of humor, she quipped, "Way to wrap up," as the reporter attempted to move on to other topics.
The two young stars recently practiced together for their anticipated mixed doubles debut at the US Open.
"It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian, just getting some volley practice ahead of New York. I'm really happy to be playing with him. We had a great time," Raducanu stated.
Raducanu also revealed that Alcaraz initiated the partnership. "Yes, he asked me. He asked me earlier on in the year, and I was very surprised, honoured, and excited," she shared.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has faced challenges in maintaining consistency since her victory. At the Eastbourne Open, she was defeated by Maya Joint before the quarter-finals.
Alcaraz, who won the 2022 US Open, has continued his ascent in the tennis world, adding multiple major titles to his resume.
Following his recent victory at the HSBC Championships, Alcaraz will face Fabio Fognini of Italy in the first round of Wimbledon 2025.
The US Open will mark a new chapter for Raducanu and Alcaraz as they join forces in mixed doubles.
